01The index

This week, per category

Each cell is one standard spec. Where three or more sellers share a price type it shows their median; where fewer do, it lists the named sellers, each price with its type. Note: a price after the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant applies in England and Wales only.

02Costs

Every spec we price

Grouped by upgrade. Each spec is compared on its own, like for like, with the lowest price of the type it compares.

03Method

How the index is read

Once a week we read the price each seller publishes on its own site for each standard spec, and store it with its type (from, fixed or typical), whether a grant has been taken off, and the date. A price older than 14 days drops out of the index and shows as not checked recently.

Prices are compared only like for like: one spec, one price type, one grant state. Lists are sorted by price, then by the date read; commission never sets the order, and we never arrange finance. Grants differ by nation, so each one says where it applies.
